Bone fragments are a common material found in the Meadows and Black Forest in Valheim. You need fragments for some armor and crafting. They are easiest to collect by raiding Burial Chambers and bashing skeletons.
After amassing a stack or two of bone fragments, you can stop collecting them. There’s nothing that you will need to craft with bone fragments after the early-game. The most important use of bone fragments is upgrading your Troll Leather Armor.
